And the copper theft continues...

Wow.

I just got this in an email forward from one of the neighborhood orgs:

****
Subject: Copper Theft Notice From Xcel Energy
Xcel Energy has currently been experiencing theft of copper ground wires from the power line poles that run through Minneapolis Alleys and streets. Individuals have been cutting the wires close to where the wires run into the ground and about as high as they can reach which usually gets them a 5-6 foot section of copper wire which are then turned into recycling centers for cash.
These cuts do not interrupt your power but they do pose a potential power interruption risk if a storm occurs. If you see anyone appearing to be doing anything around the power poles in the alley and they do not have Xcel Energy ID, uniforms or vehicles, please call 911 with a description of the person (s) and vehicle information if possible.

****

This is just getting crazy.

With luck, the doorknobs doing this will try it during a severe thunderstorm and get what they so richly deserve.

The fun part is that they probably get $2.00 for the scrap (maybe??) but it costs hundreds of dollars for the workers to come out and replace it. Guess to gets to pay for that theft in the long run...

You'd think that the scrap metal buyers could refuse to buy suspicious materials and report suspicious sellers to the authorities. The bad guys shouldn't be able to unload their stolen goods so easily.
