Ahhhh, Sunday afternoon

I spent it scraping this crap off.

It looks pretty bad, but it actually came off rather easily, and I got to enjoy the warm rays of the sun setting over 35W through newly-cleaned windows.

Well, I guess that's one way to weatherstrip a window...

Glad it came off without too much fuss.

Now I'm not very good at caulking and it's sometimes difficult to get perfect but this is just ridiculous! Someone needs a caulking class.

Those were the days when single pane windows and drafty houses were just what people lived with...fireplaces,
coal and steam fired boilers with heating grates or radiators right
near windows maybe helped, maybe
not...and in the summer people
slept outside on the porch or maybe on the kitchen floor with the ice box door open?

So are multipaned vinyl windows which probably need to be custom
made a good solution or a big
mistake?

There are a few companies out there
that claim they can do stuff to the
original wood windows to make
them more energy efficient and even
easier to clean...really?

And it's probably spendy?

And ever try to take one of those
old double hung wood casements completely apart...taking out
both the bottom and upper halves?

Ack! Even if it doesn't have 20
layers of paint on it...

You have to be either an engineer or master carpenter to get is all apart without wrecking the window.
